EXPLANATION OF LUNCH BOX & THERMOS CONDITION GRADING SYSTEM

The condition of lunch boxes and thermoses are graded with a number:
10 = Mint, 9 = Near Mint, 8 = Excellent, 7 = Fine, 6 = Very Good/Good and 5 = Good/Poor

There are different standards for grading metal lunch boxes than for grading plastic lunch boxes and thermoses. Both are outlined below.


METAL LUNCH BOXES
The following is an explanation of what each condition grade means:
"10" Mint Store stock, new, with original price tags.
"9"Near MintVery little wear, surface has wet look, feels slick.
"8"ExcellentMinor high edge wear, spot wear, light scratches & rust stains.
"7"FineNormal rim & spot wear, small dents, light rust & feels dry.
"6"Very GoodMore than normal spot & rim wear, large dents, metal next to latch broken.
"5"GoodHeavy wear on both sides, dents, light rust inside.
"4"FairOnly one side good for display.
"3"PoorNeither side is good for display.
"2"BadHeavy rust, fading, dents, no handle, bad inside.
"1"TerribleRusted or painted beyond recognition.

PLASTIC LUNCH BOXES and THERMOSES
The following is an explanation of what each condition grade means:
"10"MintStore stock, new, with original price tags.
"9"Near MintLooks new, but shows signs of very little use, with very small hairline scratches on the back.
"8"ExcellentScratches and wear on the back and sides, but picture graphics are not damaged.
"7"FineHad bad scratches and wear on back and front. Decal has peeling around edges or starting to wrinkle or bubble.
"6"GoodHas small breaks or cracks in plastic. Small amounts of decal missing, wrinkling or bubbling to wrinkle or bubble.
"5"PoorMissing handle or latch. Very bad breaks in plastic. Most of the decal is missing. Extra artwork added with felt marker by child.
